Microneedling, known as collagen induction therapy, is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that enhances skin healing. SkinPen Precision is a device designed for precise and safe treatment. It uses fine, sterile needles to create micro-injuries in the skin, triggering natural collagen and elastin production.
The SkinPen Precision device is FDA-approved and has been designed with patient safety and comfort in mind. Its adjustable needle depth allows needle depth allows for precise treatment of different areas of the face and body.
Your journey begins with a comprehensive consultation with Nurse Heather. She will assess your skin’s condition, discuss your goals, and create a personalised treatment plan.
Before the procedure, your skin will be cleansed and a topical numbing cream may be applied to ensure your comfort throughout the treatment.
Using the SkinPen Precision device, Nurse Heather will make precise passes over the treatment area, creating controlled micro-injuries. You may experience a mild, tolerable sensation during the procedure.
After the treatment, your skin may appear slightly red and feel sensitive, similar to a mild sunburn. Nurse Heather will provide you with post-treatment instructions.
Depending on your treatment plan, you may require multiple sessions spaced a few weeks apart to achieve optimal results.
Microneedling uses tiny needles to create micro-channels in the skin, triggering the body’s wound-healing response. This stimulates collagen and elastin production, leading to smoother, firmer, and a more even skin tone and texture.
Collagen and elastin are the essential protein fibres in the skin that give it support and elasticity. As we age, those fibres break down leading to fine lines, wrinkles, sagging skin, and large pores. Regenerating collagen and elastin can also help in getting a more youthful appearance overall. Collagen plays a key role in scars, such as those formed from acne.
Improper signals in pigmentation lead to dyschromia such as Melasma, Vitiligo and Sun or Age Spots (Solar Lentigines). Skin remodeling can have an important role in the improved appearance of these conditions.
SkinPen Precision is the worlds leading skin remodelling (microneedling) medical device that creates temporary small microscopic channels in your skin.
SkinPen was the first microneedling pen that was approved by the FDA, it is constructed of high-quality medical-grade materials.
Single-use sterile needle cartridges are used and the SkinPen is covered by a single-use BioSheath that acts as a barrier to minimise the risk of cross-contamination between procedures.
Microneedling is considered safe when administered by trained medical professionals. As with any medical procedure, there can be potential side effects or risks, which Nurse Heather will discuss during your consultation.
Microneedling at Skintap is suitable for all skin types but some pre treatment preparation may be required. Anyone with active skin infections or recently had a laser procedure should not have a treatment until they have fully healed.
The most common areas of treatment include the face and neck but almost anywhere on the body can be treated. Expect different healing journey with each area.
Microneedling with SkinPen Precision can improve a whole host of skin concerns such as:
Collagen production and skin remodelling take around 12 weeks. The best results will therefore be seen 12 weeks after your course of treatment.
Downtime depends on the areas treated and to which depth the treatment was applied, expect some redness and dry skin for 3-4 days after treatment.
No make up for 24 hours, avoid strenuous exercise for 24-48 hours, no direct sunlight or sunbeds for 14-28 days, no active ingredients for 3-5 days after your treatment, no other cosmetic procedures for 2 weeks.
The number of sessions can vary depending on your specific goals and the condition of your skin. Typically, a course of two to three treatments is recommended.
A topical numbing cream is applied before microneedling to minimise discomfort. Patients typically feel mild to moderate sensations, like tingling or pricking. Discomfort levels vary based on treatment depth and intensity.
